Chicago Fish & Coral sent us a review of our Cannon LED pendants over their new Seagrass themed aquarium, citing”..one of the things though that really attracted me to these lights is the ability to get them higher up like that, to keep more of the attention on the tank itself.” They went as far as adding extensive PAR readings on the 12,000K pendant and snapping a few photos of the tank-in-progress. The review adds, “Overall I feel the Cannon is a successful product for many situations. It is not the end all be all of LED lighting, nor should we expect it to be. The Cannon occupies a niche where not many products currently exist.” Read their complete review here.

I am interested in this product. But, I can’t seem to find anything about it on how high I should suppend the lamps? I have a 72.5L x 20.5W x 27″L tank and would like to make a stand to put on my canopy to replace the hanger for it. Kind a like a Tri-pod to sit the lights into. So with that said. How far off the water would these light need to be in order to get the full lighting and be able to reach the bottom without bleaching?
thanks
Hi David,
We would recommend mounting the Cannon LED pendants a minimum of 18″ from the water surface. This will provide you with a good spread and ensure the pendants do not bleach any of your corals.
Thanks!
I have a 52″L x 36″W x 24″H SPS tank, I am planing to set two 12000k and one blue Cannon LED. It is strong engouht for my tank? How high should I mounting the Cannon LED from the water surface?
Thanks!
Hi Evan,
You will want to mount the Cannon’s approximately 18″ above the surface of your aquarium. At 18″, they will provide a very good spread over a 36″ wide aquarium.
Sincerely,
The Ecoxotic Team
my tank is 300 gal’s. its 38 inch wide 20 inches deep and 90 inches long. i was thinking two white led’s and two blue led’s what would your reccmendatins be?
Hello! I am also building a new canopy to house my new 100 watt cannons. Dumb question perhaps, but I see you reccomend hangingthe lights 18″ above the water line. Is that 18″ from the bulb or 18″ from the top of the fixture? Or top of the bracket? Thanks! Can’t wait to get these things running!
Hi Greg! Thanks for purchasing our Cannon LED pendants. We usually recommend 18″ from the water line to the bottom of the LED, but you can drop it a little lower. It usually depends on the size of your aquarium – mounting them higher just gives them a bit more spread and good color mixing.
