The Stunner LED strips are really a great lighting option for hobbyists with any type of nano-aquarium. Whether you have a JBJ Nano-Cube, Oceanic Biocube, Current-USA Aquapod or Red Sea MAX, the Stunner LED strips can be used for both accent lighting or stand-alone lighting replacements. They are completely waterproof, can handle the saltwater and condensation found in those style aquariums – and can make your aquarium really stand out with color and shimmer.
Another application they can be used for – turning your aquarium into a RAVE club! If you like club music, turn up the volume and watch this video from Justin at Aquarium Outfitters in Athens, GA!
After testing both the modules and Stunner LED strips (and many hobbyists doing so), both the Panorama Modules and Stunner LED strips work fine in AIO tank hoods. If using the Stunner LED strips, we recommend removing the stock lighting or ensuring the Stunners are not close to the stock lighting. Most AIO tanks use compact fluorescent lamps which run quite hot.
Hi – I am interested in replacing (2) out of the (4) 12″ NO-T5s currently in my CADLights 12g tank canopy. This aluminum canopy has multiple holes drilled in the ends and has a 1/16″ flat acrylic shield to prevent salt water from hitting the bulbs and no internal fan. These T5 bulbs run pretty cool, but I was wondering if you have (or know anyone who has) had experience running both the Stunner strips and NO-T5s together over a longer time period.
Also, with my (4) bulbs (2 10K, 2 Actinic) I measured a LUX reading of 315 12″ from the bulbs to the middle of the tank (6″ air, 6″ water). This has allowed me to keep various Montis and even an Acropora (Green Slimer) at this level for over 2 years. I’d like to keep 2 of the T5s and add a Stunner Strip or two. My guess is that 2 of your Stunner Strips with refectors in combination with my 2 NO-T5s should out do what I have currently, but roughly speaking, by how much would you say?
Hi Ralph,
You will not have any problems running NOT5 lamps along side Stunner LED strips, we actually have a fair amount of customers who have hybridized their lighting systems in this fashion.
Your correct – in a 12 gallon system such as yours, adding two Stunner strips with reflectors will provide a bit more light than your currently running. We would recommend using the 8K/453nm Blue strips for a system like this – the strips have an excellent color rendition while still providing a good lumen/PAR output with the reflectors.
Hi
I have a 29g Biocube which I already have a 8k white stunner and 453 blue stunner in accenting the PC’s I have in there, I also had a 40 gal which I took down that I had two 8k/453 blue stunners and 1 8k and 1 453 blue stunner which I love.
Now my question is if I take out the PC’s out of my biocube and put in the two 8k/453 blue and the 1 white and 1 blue for a total of 2 8k/453 blue, 2 8k white and 2 453 blue would I be ok with that as my only source of light and all of this would be retrofitted into the hood of the biocube.
Hi Jorge,
Yes, using those Stunners should provide plenty of light for your aquarium. One recommendation – you may want to consider adding some reflectors to the Stunner LED strips. They will really focus the light into your aquarium and provide much stronger growth for your critters!

Do you know of anyone that makes a replacement hood or a easy DIY to add or replace the lighting on a 12 gallon nano cube?
Hi,
We do not know of anyone who makes a replacement hood, but replacing the stock lighting in your nano-cube with our Stunners is super easy! They are extremely easy to install and work great in the nano-cube aquariums. Just let us know if you need help.
Sincerely,
The Ecoxotic Team
I just installed a LED retro on my Nanocube 12. I used 2 Stunners (12K/454 and 8K) and a Panorama (8K/453). Tank still seems a little warm about 81-82 degrees. Do you think I should add fans or wait and see if temp ccontinues to decrease? Its been about 24 hours since install. Thanks, John
Hi John,
We would recommend waiting and just monitoring the temperatures in your tank. The LEDs do not emit much heat, but the heat sinks will radiate the heat – so keep your fans in place just in case you need them.
Sincerely,
The Ecoxotic Team
I am still using the reflector and acrylic shield. Should I remove those in order to help disappate heat? Also, do I have an adequate amount of light? Thanks
Hi John,
Yes, you will still want to use the reflector and the acrylic shield. The reflector will actually dissipate the heat well if you attach the modules directly to it. Yes, you should have plenty of light!
Sincerely,
The Ecoxotic Team
I have a 29 gallon biocube and am just starting to add coral, I want my corals to stay open a bit more than they are, so what would your suggestion be and how many strips? Do I run the stunners and the stock blue LED moonlights?
Thanks
Hi Rob,
In the Biocube 29 we usually recommend two Panorama Pro LED modules – one 12K White/445nm Blue and one 445nm Blue module. Using two will work great for all types of corals.
Great thanks! would I also use the stock lighting too, or just the 2 LED’s?
