Here’s a sneak peek at a new LED aquarium light being launched next month from Ecoxotic. The spectrum of light emitted from the new module is excellent for planted aquariums and larger marine refugiums.
The freshwater tank featured in the video is 20″ x 13″ x 15″ and its lit with an 8,000K Panorama Module and an 8K/453nm Blue Panorama module. Plant dominated tanks need a lot of light, similar to what corals need. This is one of the reasons so many hobbyists fail with planted tanks; they don’t have enough light. But the LED’s will resolve the amount of light needed, in addition to the inherent electrical savings. Both LEDs combined are only consuming 24 watts. A planted tank of this size with fluorescent lights would pull closer to 65-100 watts.
And yet another reason why we are Endangering the Status Quo.
The new Panorama 8,000K modules will be available in November 2010.
